Flower Portrait Photography

Floral Design with Artificial Botanicals

Check My Latest Works

My flower portraits are presented here for you to see. All are my original photography and background textures.

The flowers were discovered in a variety of places...in public gardens, neighborhood walks, and in shops where they are purchased and brought to my table. Often, on my table, the light from the window would magically illuminate them.

As the days progressed, I'd watch them open their petals to light and reveal an inner glow.
This is the glow that is their giving and nurturing. A glow that is an extension of their unique healing force. And this is what I wish to share in their portraits.

ABOUT THE SILK FLORAL DESIGNS
The floral designs presented in this Gallery are all my creations using artificial botanicals. I have a special admiration for quality "silk" flowers because I've had the privilege to work directly with  Master Artisans in China and Thailand. Masters in coloring, sculpture, mold making, and assembly.
Creating an artificial flower to be botanically convincing and pleasing to the eyes is a result of many artistic and technical masters.
I also had the privilege to create showroom displays with these flowers. Some of which are presented here.

I am both a student of meditation and a student of flowers.
They combine into a creative passion throughout my life.
Meditation does well to bring my mind and cells of the body
to a sense of harmony, balance, and well-being.

Coming out of meditation, I am then challenged
to maintain this state of well-being throughout the day.
Flowers are my support to this challenge.
Always a gift to my senses,
they stimulate the spiritual centers of my being.
In so doing, they share a power of focus
that returns me to my personal center of harmony, balance,
and well-being.
I feel renewed.

From time to time,
certain flowers share a special energy with my photographic work.
And, at times in meditation, the particular flower
brings to mind a very clear and distinct affirmation.
The flower is sharing a deeper identity of itself,
giving more of itself to nurture me.

This artwork is an invitation to a relationship.
There exists in the flower an unconditional power to give,
nurture and strengthen.
When you feel life is a challenge to you,
accept their invitation to share a power
that will work to restore your well being.
ABOUT ME image
I live in Newburgh, New York. Just above the Hudson River. Sometimes the view outside my window is an awesome sight. The building is Orange County Community College. It's a morning sunrise.
To me, the Hudson River Valley is resplendent with artistic inspiration.
To be able to share this with you in some way is my joy.

I spent many years as a floral designer, specializing in silk flowers. My skills brought me to China over many years. In China, I designed collections of flowers, striving for botanically correct accuracy and colors. This required that I work closely with the Chinese design masters in the production factories of China.

And this is how I got involved with photography. I would show them the photos of the flowers I wished for them to produce, and stood in awe of their amazing artistry and craftsmanship.

The "spiritual" relationship to flowers came through my study of Ikebana. For over fifteen years I studied with a Japanese Master Teacher of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana in New York. She taught a relationship to flowers that she referred to as "The Flower Path". A deeply spiritual woman. One of the most nurturing I ever came to know.

In Ikebana, flowers are positioned to face and "communicate". They have a distinctive relationship to each other, of space, color and texture. The arrangement is meant to engage and elevate one's viewing experience.

Meditation. Over 40 years of my life studying with masters of meditation and inner self awareness. What can I say. Meditation gives one a different set of eyes. I can no longer look at an object without seeing some dimension of light and energy. This is how I look at flowers. Not only flowers, but everything. At times, the flower I am working with evokes a message. I'll write it down. Some of these are shared in the section called Affirmations.
